Kickboxing Aerobics is a fun, energetic, intense fitness class integrating martial arts, dance and boxing. Unlike traditional Martial Arts, the class is taught to music but the principles and philosophy remain, meaning that the discipline and attention to technique and form are still stressed. There is no other program that utilizes every muscle group as Kickboxing.
The Kickboxing program at Auburn Karate has been redesigned in order to get a complete Kickbox Aerobic fitness program. For added cardio intensity, we have added Turbokick Aerobics to our program. Turbokick is a blend of western boxing and martial arts which creates a distinctive high-powered, high energy workout. From the warmup to the cool down, this is a non stop workout. Turbokick is definately the coolest thing happening in Kickboxing presently. Intervals of intensity are choreographed for ultimate cardio workout. The focus of this program is on a linear progression as opposed to traditional aerobics that utilize a bell curve type of progression. Options complexity and intensity are shown so that anyone can participate regardless of their fitness level. Each class includes at least one "Turbo" interval that lasts for a minute and a half. During the "Turbo" interval, high speed drills such as "football running" and "imaginary jump rope" are incorporated. This is designed to provide a total anaerobic challenge. Instructors are certified to teach Turbokick.
The other part of the Kickboxing Program is called Technique and Bag. After a half an hour of intense cardio drills, students work with heavy bags, mitts, and blocking sticks. The focus of this class is on teaching punching and kickboxing proper form and the execution of power. Self defense and proper breathing techniques are also stressed. Instructors are certified in Kickboxing and/or Blackbelt rank.
The combination of these two classes makes up for a complete fitness program burning approximately 600 - 800 calories each class. Both programs are designed for all ages, all fitness levels and all genders. Equipment is provided but you may bring or purchase your own boxing gloves. Both programs incorporate Tai Chi in the cool down promoting relaxation, stress reduction and improved concentration. In Tai Chi you perform a series of slow, graceful and controlled body movements while your body remains straight and upright.
We will be adding more classes in 2008 so check the Class Times link or call 315-255-6978.
